Arlington, VA, April 15, 2024 – Indev is excited to announce the addition of Steven Purcell as Lead Data Scientist supporting our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs.  Steven specializes in researching and developing advanced analytics applied to a variety of government data sets including trade-based money laundering, fraud detection, commodity-based analytics, intellectual property crime, and sales tax. After obtaining his B.S. in Mathematics from Austin Peay State University and M.S. in Data Analytics from Northern Illinois University, Steven led the research and development of patented technology targeting sales tax noncompliance in small business.

With his background in data science, emergency services, and higher education, Steven is passionate about advancing data-driven decision-making and advanced analytics in the government market to enhance operations, increase efficiency, and prevent fraud. Steven is a Data Analytics subject matter expert assisting in developing university curriculum for new data analytics programs and adjunct faculty at Southern New Hampshire University and Herzing University.  Additionally, Steven is a contributor to Tax Notes and Bloomberg Tax Insights highlighting the role machine learning and data science can play in tax enforcement.

In his free time, Steven enjoys rock-climbing, hiking, 3d printing, brewing, and spending time with his wife and kids.
